Notice of Assessment

The Aboriginal Cultural Material Committee (ACMC) will assess Aboriginal Heritage Place ID 33865, being the Wellesley River Waugal, at its meeting on Friday 14 July 2023.

The Wellesley River Waugal has importance and significance due to having mythological association with a mythical Water Serpent and the Dreaming, as a natural water source.

Property owners with land interests that adjoin or intersect any part of ID 33865 (Wellesley River Waugal) are invited to provide comments that may be relevant to the Committee’s consideration of this matter.

There will be no impacts to land ownership or access as a result of the Committee’s assessment.  However, any future activities that are likely to damage, excavate or alter the river, its banks and tributaries may require approval under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 or the incoming Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021.
