Guidelines for State Government Heritage

Overview

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (the Department) on behalf of the Heritage Council of Western Australia is seeking comment from State Government agencies on two draft Guidelines for State Government Heritage:

The Heritage Act 2018 highlighted the need for Guidelines to assist State Government agencies to efficiently manage and conserve heritage assets and maintain up to date inventories of these heritage assets.

Heritage assets within a State agency’s property portfolio may be only a small proportion of its total assets, however as a custodian of these important heritage places, State agencies have a responsibility to ensure that they are identified, managed and conserved in the present and for the future.

Why your views matter

A key part of this consultation is to understand:

  • What current heritage asset management processes do you have in place?
  • Do the Guidelines suit your agency’s needs for guidance about heritage asset management?
  • Is your agency likely to implement the steps set out in the Guidelines?  (and if not, what would be needed to help your agency implement these steps?)
  • Would your agency benefit from additional support and guidance about heritage matters?
