Overview

Following substantial completion of urban renewal projects in the Armadale redevelopment areas, the State Government is proposing to return planning control for these areas from DevelopmentWA (formerly the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority) to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) and the City of Armadale.

For this to occur, the WAPC has initiated amendments to the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS).

The proposed amendments seek to re-establish various zones and reservations within the MRS to allow the transfer of planning control back to the WAPC and the respective local government via a process known as ‘normalisation’.

The amendments are administrative in nature and the proposed zones and reservations are consistent with existing land uses and the associated statutory planning framework. As such, the current use and development of properties and surrounding land in the amendment areas will not change.
