Draft Muchea Industrial Park Structure Plan
Overview
The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) is seeking public comment on the draft Muchea Industrial Park Structure Plan, which covers 1167 ha at the intersection of Tonkin Highway (NorthLink), Brand Highway and Great Northern Highway in the Shire of Chittering.
The draft Structure Plan is a high-level strategic document that provides a long-term land use planning framework to coordinate development of the industrial park. It updates the WAPC’s 2011 Muchea Employment Node Structure Plan in response to increased planning activity in the area. Muchea is positioned to be the closest industrial park to Perth with triple road train (RAV10) access to the State’s mining and agricultural region and the recently opened NorthLink has improved access to the industrial park from Perth.
The draft Structure Plan seeks to facilitate industrial land development whilst incorporating measures to protect surrounding land uses and identified ecological functions, particularly those of the Ellen Brook and to reflect the park’s location in a rural setting. It provides updated guidance on water management, future development of precincts and implementation and canvasses staging options for the road network.
