The Aboriginal Cultural Material Committee (ACMC) will assess Aboriginal heritage place ID 39200, being the Gascoyne and Lyons River, at its meeting on 16 December 2022.

The Gascoyne and Lyons River has importance and significance due to having mythological association with a mythical Water Serpent and the Dreaming.

Property owners with land interests that adjoin or intersect any part of the Gascoyne and Lyons River are invited to provide comments that may be relevant to the Committee’s consideration of this matter.

There will be no impacts to land ownership or access as a result of the Committee’s assessment.  However, any future activities that are likely to damage, excavate or alter the river, its banks and tributaries may require approval under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972.
